Top ten common faults and solutions for Windows systems
The Windows operating system has been used for a long time and has encountered many types of problems. So, sum it up: In fact, you can easily solve most of the problems yourself.

In this article, I will share with you the most common Windows issues based on some of my experiences and how easy it is to solve them.

1. File Explorer does not display drive information

Sometimes, one or more drives in the File Explorer may disappear without a trace. If you encounter this situation, you can right click on any blank space and select "Refresh".

If this still doesn't solve the problem, you can try to hide them. Double-click the "Disk Drive" option at the top and your disk drive should appear there. You can also check if the problem can be fixed by restarting the computer.

If this method still doesn't work for you, you can press the Windows + R key at the same time and type "compmgmt.msc" in the run dialog to open the "Computer Management" form. Click Disk Management on the left panel to open all hard drives.

Right click on the disappearing disk and check "Change drive letter and path".

Now click on "Change" and select a different drive letter on the next page. This way the disk drive can appear again in the File Explorer.

2. The search area in the start menu is missing.

Sometimes a program may disable the search area in the Windows Start menu and cause it to be inaccessible. If you encounter such a situation, you can easily restore it by following the steps below.

Go to the Control Panel from the Start menu and click Uninstall a Program under the Programs option.

On the left panel, you click on the link "Enable or disable Windows features". The "Windows Features" form will be opened, you can check the box next to "Windows Search" and click "OK" to save your changes.

You will be prompted to restart your computer. After you have confirmed the prompt and restarted the computer, the search area should be restored.

3. The file cannot be opened by the default program

You will feel very annoyed when you double-click on a file but cannot be opened by the program you need. Many programs change the default program for files when they are installed. Sometimes, the programs you need to open for a particular file type will also be modified. Fortunately, in Windows, changing the default program for any type of file is fairly easy.

You can hover your mouse over the file, right click on it and select the "Open with" option. In the menu that pops up on the side, click "Choose Default Program".

You can select and set the default program for this particular file type in the program list. Also make sure to check the option "Always use the selected program to open this file" so that the program you choose will always be used to open files of that type.

4.Windows continues to enter sleep mode

By default, Windows is set to enter sleep mode after a specified period of idle time. This also happens when some processes are still working (but not the media player). If you are not satisfied with this setup, then you can easily adjust it in the power options.

Press the Windows + R key at the same time and enter "powercfg.cpl" in the "Run" dialog to open the power options. Click "Change Plan Settings" here, then select "Never" from the drop-down menu next to "Make your computer go to sleep." This will prevent your computer from automatically going into sleep mode.

5.Windows slides don't work

Slideshow wallpapers and themes are a great way to keep your desktop fresh, but sometimes Windows may disable slides to save power. If your slideshow feature on Windows doesn't work, you can enable it by following these steps:

As described above, re-enter the power supply selection and click "Change Advanced Power Settings". Click Expand in the Desktop Background Settings option in the pop-up form, and then expand Slide Show further. Select "Available" in its drop-down menu.

6.Windows takes too much time to enter sleep mode

The sleep function usually takes 3 - 5 seconds to put the computer to sleep, but if it exceeds 15 seconds, then you must use the hybrid sleep feature. Hybrid sleep first copies all processes from memory to the hard disk and then sleeps the computer. This helps preserve the current session in response to a power outage, but it also significantly increases the computer's sleep time.

If you are not satisfied with this feature, you can easily transfer to the regular sleep function.

Same in the Advanced Settings in Power Options, expand the Sleep option, and then expand Allow Mixed Sleep. By selecting "Off" from its drop-down menu, Hybrid Sleep will be disabled.

7.Windows continues to wake up automatically from sleep mode

There are two reasons why Windows may continue to wake up automatically from sleep mode. Either there is a connected device to wake it up, or the automatic software needs to wake up the computer to complete its task.

For external devices, unplug the device one by one to find the culprit. In particular, a failed device will force the computer to wake up from sleep. I have had a faulty keyboard that has caused such things many times.

In order to prevent the application from waking up to the PC, you can go to the "Advanced Settings" of "Power Options" again and expand the "Sleep" option. Then expand the "Allow Wakeup Timer" option, "Disable". This will prevent any program from waking up to the PC.

8. Not reflected in time when changing folders and files

Sometimes when you edit a file or folder, its changes are not immediately visible. For example, if you change the size of some images, the changes in size and size in their descriptions may not be updated immediately. This can also happen when you rename a file.

If you do encounter such a problem, just right click on any part of the form and select "Refresh" from the pop-up menu. This option will reproduce everything after synchronizing the changes.

If the refresh option doesn't work, you can solve this problem by temporarily leaving the current folder and then coming back.

9. Disable the daemon in Windows 10

Whether you use it or not, Windows has a lot of common applications running in the background. If you feel that your computer or Internet connection is slow, it may be helpful to stop the background application of Windows 10.

Open the Start menu and click "Settings". In Settings, click Privacy and scroll down to Background Apps. Select "Close" all the Windows 10 apps you don't need here.

This will only disable their background processes, you can still use these applications and all their features.

10. Sleep mode in the Windows 10 power option has disappeared

If the hibernate option is not available in the Windows 10 power options, you can retrieve it by doing the following:

Press the Windows + R key at the same time and enter "powercfg.cpl" in the "Run" dialog to open the power options. In the left panel, select the "Select function for power button" option. Click the "Change settings not currently available" option at the top. Scroll down and check the box next to Hibernate.
